Retail giant Walmart said Tuesday (March 30) it would hold its annual shareholder meeting virtually on June 2 at 10:30 a.m. A link to the meeting will be available on the company website.
The retailer said it made the decision based on the continued COVID-19 pandemic which is also impacting the annual celebration with thousands of employees which typically is a week-long event in Northwest Arkansas.
For the business meeting on June 2, Walmart said it will focus on shareholder voting and proxy proposals. Shareholders can vote online, by mail or by phone prior to the meeting. The record date for shareholders to vote is April 19. Only shareholders at that time may vote.
Walmart said it will hold a June 4 virtual event for employees that will have entertainment and messages shared by senior leadership. Walmart followed a similar program in 2020 amid the pandemic with virtual-only events and it curtailed all corporate travel outside of its own jet service.
Walmart said it will file its annual proxy with the Securities & Exchange Commission in April to confirm how shares may be voted before or during the June 2 meeting.
